June 9Jun 9 [JB gets out his analog 1970 desk top calculator... rethinks that, and gets out his 1969 slide rule instead... rethinks that, and decides to take a wild guess.]Dime: B: 5.26 centsNickel: C: 4.21 centsPenny: B: 1.76 cents
June 9Jun 9 I have no idea. JB's guess sound as good s anything I could come up with.I always return from the States with pockets full of change, which does me no good here in Brazil, and then I forget to take it with me the next time I fly north. Paper currency is convertible here...coins aren't.We seldom even use Brazilian coins. Many stores didn't even carry many, so often times you were offered penny candy's as change for small amounts if they run out or they rounded the price down. Now almost anyone with cell phone (which is easy since there's 140 cell phone lines for every 100 people here...), has access to PIX, an instant payment system developed by the Central Bank of Brazil, that unlike VISA or Mastercharge and the like...is free.
June 10Jun 10 Dime A: 7.83 centsNickel A: 7.42 centsPenny A: 2.34 centsI got thrown by the 2021. Today, both the penny and nickel are upside down. It costs more to produce than they are worth. One of the few good things the Mint has done recently is to discontinue penny production. It is estimated that there are over one billion dollars in pennies still in circulation. They are contemplating stopping nickel production as well. I believe there are around 500 million nickels out there as well. Don't think we'll run out any time soon!Only around 20% of transactions in the U.S. today involve cash. Credit and debit make up nearly 75% of all transactions.

June 13Jun 13 Author Question 149 - NumbersWhich is greater, the original height of the Great Pyramid or the original length of one of it’s sides?A: HeightB: Length
June 13Jun 13 Hmm, I would think that the sides would be longer, otherwise the pyramid would be taller than it is wide... and it isn't. So, B: Length. Unless I'm misunderstanding the question. I'm 73 (as of today) so that's definitely a possibility.
June 14Jun 14 ^ Who is this "HB" you speak of? I'm glad he's your online friend, but what about ME?!?
June 17Jun 17 Author Correct answer for Question 149 - NumbersWhich is greater, the original height of the Great Pyramid or the original length of one of it’s sides?B: LengthHeight was 481.4 ft. and the length of each side was 756.4 ft.
June 17Jun 17 Author Question 150 - NumbersHow many numbers are there where the letters in the number's spelling are in alphabetical order? i.e., FortyA: 1B: 100C: 1,373D: Over 28,000
June 17Jun 17 Ah man! You made me spell out all the numbers up to ten and then I started on the rest before suddenly thinking 'this is repetitive...', so I gave up and I'll just say: A: 1
June 17Jun 17 I'm surprised there is even one! I suspect the only number is the example you provided: A: 1. Then again, number are infinite, soooo...
June 18Jun 18 Darn, I missed the Pyramid one which I actually knew!I'll go along with everyone else and say A: 1Happy Birthday JB!!!

June 22Jun 22 Author Question 151 - NumbersHow long is Tabasco sauce aged before its ready to be bottled?A: 3 hoursB: 3 daysC: 3 monthsD: 3 years

June 26Jun 26 Author Question 152 - NumbersThere are 100 folds in a chef’s hat. These are said to represent what?A: The number cheese types originally made at the Marin French Cheese Co.B: The number of graduates each year from the British Culinary FederationC: The number of ways to cook an eggD: No one knows
June 26Jun 26 I'm gonna say: D: No one knows. I wasn't even aware that the number of folds is an established tradition... seems kinda silly for it to actually represent something.
June 26Jun 26 I though 'Chef's hats' originated in France, although I may well be wrong, but if true then B is wrong, A seems to have a suspicious name, C seems questionable, so I'll go with JB and say D: No one knows because I sure don't!
