Posted December 27, 2024Dec 27 OK - I'm going to share some of the questions from the trivia game I run. It will not be all of them, but I will post when I remember to do it. (and I almost always have openings in my real game for new players, so let me know if you are ever interested in joining the live game or want to know more about it.) No cheating looking up the answers!!!! Q1: Topic is Technology In the classic game Oregon Trail...you could choose to be a carpenter, farmer, or what other profession? A: Grocer B: Banker C: Teacher D: Blacksmith I will post the correct answer in the next couple of days.
December 27, 2024Dec 27 D...and that's a guess, I never played it but seems like the most logical need...
December 27, 2024Dec 27 Hmm, I did play Oregon Trail once, about twenty years ago. But I don't even remember choosing an occupation at the start. I do remember that my 'son' died along the way. That seems to happen a lot in that game; family members dying along the way, of this, that, or the other thing. Being a grocer sounds like it would be one of the game choices, so I'll say that, A: Grocer. Besides, Wagi said "D", and I just wanna be different.
December 29, 2024Dec 29 I loved Oregon Trail!! I think the answer is Banker? It's either Banker or Grocer but I'm pretty sure it's Banker! Fun idea for a topic, I like it! there's this illusion of the reality, but it's not really really real, like it's beside and inside and inside and beside, but never on top.. nevermind, just kidding but not really
December 30, 2024Dec 30 Author The correct Answer was: B: Banker (nice answer Wolfpaw). Next Question: Topic Technology When Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin began work on developing a search engine (in 1996), what was it originally called? A: BackRub B: GagMe C: Search1 D: Dabble Edited December 30, 2024Dec 30 by Wowman
December 30, 2024Dec 30 A and B sound kinda silly, C sounds almost too simple, so I was going to guess D: Dabble...but I have a weird hunch it will be the simple C because they were just starting out and hadn't come up with a real name yet...
December 30, 2024Dec 30 I agree with Wagi, that A and B sound silly. I too, am gonna guess D: Dabble, because it looks and sounds a lot like "Google". (Now watch, it'll probably be one of the 'silly' ones.)
January 6Jan 6 Author Question 3: True or False. Which of the following statements is the only FALSE one? A: If a ball gets stuck in the umpire's mask, all baserunners move forward one base B: Vincent Van Gogh painted the Starry Night during the daytime C: About 13.8 million Google searches take place every minute D: There are at least 21 fictional characters with stars in the Hollywood Walk of Fame
January 6Jan 6 I'm gonna guess "C"...only because I think I recall reading sometime ago a lower number...but that may be outdated now, but I'll stick with it. "Backrub"??? Well, I guess that makes sense to some rich genius-types... LOL!
January 6Jan 6 i'm gonna buck the trend and say "A". Seems awfully arbitrary to have all the runners advance just because the ball gets stuck in the ump's mask! "Backrub"....... Told ya it would be one of the silly ones!

The other facts: A: If a ball gets stuck in the umpire’s mask, all baserunners move forward one base This is a real MLB rule B: Vincent Van Gogh painted the Starry Night during the daytime This is true D: There are at least 21 fictional characters with stars in the Hollywood Walk of Fame The 21 (as of 2021) are: Rin Tin Tin, Big Bird, Donald Duck, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Bugs Bunny, Godzilla, Kermit the Frog, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, The Munchkins, The Muppets, Rugrats, Shrek, The Simpsons, Snoopy, Snow White, Tinker Bell, Winnie the Pooh, Woody Woodpecker, Lassie, Strongheart.
January 7Jan 7 Author Question 4: True or False Black olives are the same as green olives only they have been left on the tree to ripen longer.

January 7Jan 7 OK, I have more confidence in this one. (I've gotta be right at least once ! ) I seem to recall, from a TV show, that the black color comes from the brining process, not from ripeness. So I'll say "False".
January 13Jan 13 Author Question 4: Answer Black olives are the same as green olives only they have been left on the tree to ripen longer. This is TRUE.
January 13Jan 13 Author Question 5: Technology What is the unit of measure that is defined as the smallest detectable movement of a mouse cursor on a screen? A: Pup B: Pinky C: R.A.T. D: Mickey
January 13Jan 13 LOL! No wonder I'm not tech savvy! I'm gonna completely guess and say "A: Pup" Why? Because I'm wondering if 'pixel' and "unit" makes up part of the unit's name...maybe 'partial' as well? Of course 'Pinky' starts with a 'P' as well, but I think it's too long...
January 13Jan 13 I was gonna say "Mickey", just because of the whole 'mouse' thing. But Wagi's theory makes sense, so I'll copy him and say A: Pup. Besides, I'm battin' zero so far. 😠
January 20Jan 20 Author Question 6: Topic of Big Business The ‘Reese’ in Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups is named for what? A: A famous French Chocolatier B: A small town in Pennsylvania C: A soldier from WWII D: The employee that created the candy
January 20Jan 20 OK, so Wagi led me astray on the previous question. I WOULD'VE GOTTEN IT RIGHT!!! But nooooo. 😠 Reese's: Again, the choices all sound perfectly plausible. [Winnie the Pooh, "Think, think. think."] The stupid thing is, I saw a show on the History channel less than a year ago about this very same topic. Guess I shoulda taken notes. I'm gonna say D: The employee that created the candy. BTW, since I always get these things wrong, a good strategy for the rest of you is to note which answer I chose, then pick any of the others. You stand a pretty good chance of getting it right!
