INFORMATION & SIGNUPS

Welcome to the official ParkCrafers competition of the 20th Anniversary of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3! Can you believe it's been 20 years? We're celebrating this big milestone with a friendly competition all focused around one thing - RollerCoaster Tycoon 3! Read on below for the information!

 

WHAT IS THE RCT3 20TH ANNIVERSARY COMPETITION?

The RCT3 20th Anniversary Competition is a friendly community-wide competition where members can sign up and create something in RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 to help celebrate the 20th anniversary of the game! Members can create whatever type of project they would like in RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 and the highest member-voted submission will win! However, there is a twist with this competition - only scenery, rides, and content that is in the base game are allowed! NO CUSTOM CONTENT ALLOWED AT ALL! Let's see how you all do working with RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 as it was natively released! Once all submissions are complete, we will put all projects up for public voting.

RCT3 20TH ANNIVERSARY RULES

To ensure that this competition runs smoothly, please keep the following rules in mind when participating in the RCT3 20th Anniversary Competition:

  • You MUST create something in RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 ONLY. No other games are allowed for this competition!
  • Your final project can be anything created in RollerCoaster Tycoon 3. It can be a coaster, park, landscape, building, firework effect, pyro show - anything! As long as it was created in RCT3 then you're good!
  • Custom Scenery, custom attractions, custom firework effects, or any other custom content that must be installed into the game are NOT ALLOWED for this competition! This is strictly a no-custom content competition!
  • Any game manipulation via cheat peeps or file editing such as options.txt is NOT allowed. We want this to be as vanilla as possible!
  • You may only use scenery items, attractions, coasters, and effects in vanilla RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, Soaked, Wild, and Platinum/Complete editions. No other items are allowed!
  • To compete, you must sign up for this competition by responding to this thread. Once you've signed up you are free to begin working and planning on your project!
  • You must submit either a video or photo(s) of your final project before the deadline, otherwise, you will forfeit - plan accordingly!
  • All final projects will be put up for public voting, the project with the most votes wins!
  • This is a solo-only competition, you may not work with other people or copy other people's work for this competition - everything must be 100% created by you!
  • Staff members are allowed to participate in this competition as well.
  • All community rules and guidelines of ParkCrafters apply to this competition.

RCT3 20th ANNIVERSARY AGENDA

Below you can find a list of all important dates for this competition, please keep them in mind if you're looking to participate!

  • RCT3 20th Anniversary Competition Signups OPEN on September 8th, 2024, and CLOSE on September 15th, 2024. This gives everyone 1 week to sign up! Once you've signed up, you can immediately begin on your project - this means if you sign up earlier, you'll have more time to work on your project!
  • All projects MUST be submitted to any ParkCrafters staff member before October 20th, 2024! This gives you a little over 1 month to work on your project
  • Public voting will begin on October 20th, 2024, and will end on October 26th, 2024.
  • The winner will be announced on October 26th, 2024 - exactly 20 years after RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 was released!

RCT3 20th ANNIVERSARY COMPETITION PRIZES

The crowned winner of the RCT3 20th Anniversary Competition will receive a rare winner badge on their ParkCrafters profile (this is only obtainable through this event) along with their name immortalized on our Trophy Case on our Discord server! The winner will also receive a Steam copy of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition if they do not own it. If the winner already owns RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition on Steam, they can also choose to receive a digital $20 Steam Gift Card!

If you would like to sign up for the RCT3 20th Anniversary Competition, just simply respond to this thread stating you'd like to sign up! Remember, the earlier you sign up then the earlier you can start working on your submission. Keep in mind that sign-ups for this competition will close on September 15th, 2024, so be sure to sign up before then if you're interested!

This was a question already asked to me but I figured I should add it publicly here in case anyone else is curious. Waterjets and lasers can be customized through the advanced designer as that is in the game available, however, firework effects must be the base game effects since the AFE was originally hidden and not accessible unless by cheat codes! So for any members looking to create a pyro show for this competition, lasers and waterjets can be customized but firework effects can not - you must use the base game fireworks! Custom music however is allowed for firework shows since that was also a feature introduced in the game, similar to how people who create attractions and parks can use custom images for their billboards!

This is not allowed as it is not something originally intended in the game - we're aiming for the most vanilla experience!

The great thing about it being a "Vanilla-only" competition is the playing field truly is level for all participating. I am massively excited to see what players like yourself come up with!

Nice layout. Great job keeping the coasters lined up after splitting and coming back together. You used all the layout tricks to manage this. Equal balancing of outside and inside turns, etc. Its hard to do dueling coasters correctly.

Done! And yeah I had some inspiration so I decided to hammer it out when the ideas are still fresh😅

Are we encouraging public submissions for the contest? Nothing against @m00nkinftw and posting his - just curious if the idea is to keep everything secret (like the Canvas Clash from May) or if the rest of the submissions should be private before voting.
