Hey all! Been a while since I have done one of these discussions. The topic is Halloween events. What is your favorite Halloween event at a park or in your area and/or what is a Halloween event you would like to attend?

Halloween isn't as well known nor observed here in Brazil as elsewhere.  A few stores like costume shops may have displays and a few parties exist, but the whole 'trick or treat' idea just doesn't.  Besides, some stores are too busy putting up Christmas decorations or displays for Children's Day on October 12th.

We just spent a few weeks back in the States, and while WalMart was setting up their Christmas trees aisle, Halloween was out in full force everywhere else, but then they probably had Halloween stuff out last May.

We did visit Disneyland, CA Adventure and Knott's, all fully decorated, but didn't attend any Halloween-specific after hours events.  I will say that I wasn't crazy about the over abundance of Halloween-themed stuff in every single Disney shop and really not much of anything else.  We came back with very few items from Disney, which is unusual in itself...

Has to start and end with Mickey's Halloween Party at DL Anaheim. Took our boys there a number of times back when we had annual passes, even though the party tickets cost extra. We had SO much fun! I got to be Alice to my older son's Mad Hatter!

I know I've posted this up before the last time this topic came up, but I just can't help myself! That day was just so... perfect! ::sigh::

As I age, and my kids are grown, I have scaled down my Halloween activities. Maybe the grandkids will light a new fire under me. But back in the day.....

My city I lived in had a Halloween House decoration contest/tour. It started with maybe 10 house and over the years bloomed to like 30 houses. Several of us were in in it for many years and had some very elaborate displays. The city put together a list of the houses, a suggested map, etc. I would win awards and trophies every year. It was lots of fun. A lot of work (standing out there every night for about 2 weeks, in the cold pouring rain sometimes).

My basic theme was dead pirates. I had several life size skeletons dressed up Hollywood style in old rip and torn pirate clothes. One was in the tree hanging lights, another on a keg holding a lit torch, another sitting on a treasure chest swinging his riches around. A few were animated. There was a graveyard with another leaning against a headstone. Theatrical lighting, smog, fake fire pots, etc.

The best was that I dressed up as a pirate, in a very cool Davy Jones mask and would stand at the edge of the display acting like an animatronic figure...and doing jump scares to the kids and moms as they came to the house. It was great fun. Some years I had other family members dress up as well.  Some people would sit in chairs with their beers across the street to watch me scare people.

On weekend nights we would have a line of cars 50 or more waiting to drive by and jump out to check out the display. I used to have to buy over 600 pieces or more of candy to give away on Halloween night, People would come from all around.

I will have to dig up some old pics and share them.

Love the one-eyed pirate skeleton with the parrot on his shoulder. I also love that you, in your (great) Davy Jones mask, acted like an animatronic, and jump-scaring the kids. I wonder how many of them had to change their underwear when they got home?

When it comes to Halloween there's always one person that pops into my mind immediately.. paging @Kablary!

there's this illusion of the reality, but it's not really really real, like it's beside and inside and inside and beside, but never on top.. nevermind, just kidding but not really

Great responses all!

This year I don't think I am doing much for Halloween minus watching the traditional movies that play on tv and the in-game decorations. A bucket-list event for me is Halloween Horror Nights and an event I would like to do again is Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party as I have done it twice and enjoyed it, probably would do more in terms of a Disney bound. Last time I wore the Ghost Host CM t-shirt as it is Florida and hot 🤣.
