This is a thread for anyone who edits videos as a hobby. 😃🎞️📽️

While many of you know one of my hobbies is editing videos of RCT3 projects that I've made; I also enjoy making edits of movies. One of my special interests is the Titanic, and I've made several edits of the 1953 Titanic. This video in particular I've made the following changes:

  1. Added a panning motion to the static shot of the Titanic miniature hitting the berg. (The original shot was just a extremely wide static shot)
  2. I flipped the cut of the underwater collision as the continuity was off, showing the port side of the ship being torn open instead of the starboard side. I also edited it in much further towards the beginning of the scene. It initially was half way through the scene which didn't make a lot of sense continuity wise. By that point the audience has already heard the collision, so showing it again halfway through the scene was an odd choice.
  3. I also flipped the static interior shot of the hull being torn open and added a panning motion. I also moved this cut towards the beginning of the collision rather than half way through the scene (it was right after the previously mentioned cut.
  4. I shortened the length of Capitan Smith's reaction, as I felt seeing him walk out of the first class dining room was not necessary. The shot was long and interrupted the pacing. With this I had to shorten the song that was played and adjust it accordingly to overlay correctly with the reaction cut of Officer Charles Lightoller.
  5. I again added panning motion to the miniature shot, also zooming it to make it feel like a different camera angle than the previous. There was only one long take of the miniature so I wanted to add a little variation to make it more interesting visually.
  6. I fixed the side Captain smith enters the bridge on by flipping it.
  7. I corrected the cut of the water tight doors closing, as they had added the ships port list, which doesn't happen till much later.
  8. Finally I sampled an establishing shot from the beginning of the film, and flipped it to create a new establishing shot. There was not shot to establish that the ship had stopped after the iceberg, and was only implied with sound effects and dialogue. The only establishing shot of the ship stopped after the berg, was a while after the collision, and showed rockets being fired, so it couldn't be used. If I had fancier editing I could have masked out the rockets, but for now I'm only working with Sony Movie Studio Platinum.

EDIT: I have added a link to the original scene for comparison.

Excellent! But I find myself wanting to see the unedited, original version here as well, to make comparisons. Good job, nevertheless! 👍

Disappointed the channel name isn't TitanicFilmFan1407.... 😉

This is stupidly cool, Wilhelm! Clearly a lot of other folks share in your passion and craft as that video you posted has 300k+ views! I'd love to see a side-by-side comparison of the original edit to further appreciate your efforts.

I didn't realize there was an upload of the original on YouTube. I added a link to the original post. 😃

I feel like every RCT3 community has at least one Titanic fan (is fan a good word to use here? I don't know.. haha). Back in the vPyro days, there was someone who was so into the Titanic film that they tried to recreate it entirely as a fanmade movie project! Wonder where you are now, Vanubo...

Video editing is also a passion of mine and it's super cool to see this. Never tried editing an old piece of footage like this so this was neat to see. If I have any cool videos I've edited, I'll share them here too!

there's this illusion of the reality, but it's not really really real, like it's beside and inside and inside and beside, but never on top.. nevermind, just kidding but not really

Yeah you should share them for sure! 😃

And I actually have another Titanic one uploaded, and I'm working on a third right now.

The film from the last video, I edited the final plunge. I always felt it needed a little something extra because it just went: explosion knocking everyone down, cuts to Barbara Stanwyck, then suddenly the ship is at a 45 degree and it was just too fast.

I sampled a second take of one of the cuts where there's this explosion and all the people on board fall down. The other take had a lot more smoke and they actually used it earlier in the film but added shaky cam to it so it wouldn't look as similar. I stabilized it and added it in to get the smoke engulfing everyone.

Originally there was only the single short reaction shot of Barbara Stanwyck before the miniature shots. I felt it was kind of odd because her daughter is also with her in the lift boat, and they're the only two of the family that get off the ship. So I sampled a reaction shot from earlier in the film, and cropped it down so I could add Audrey Dalton's reaction.

Also the original scene there's no sounds over the miniature shots except the water and explosion. So I added in sounds for the ship creaking, and things crashing inside it, along with screaming sounds. There were a lot of layers of sounds when I was editing and it got a little confusing. For most of the screaming sounds I used some from the 1958 Titanic film A Night To Remember. It might sound weird but I specifically picked certain screams for the raising action of the stern, the beginning of the plunge, and the final explosion. I also did sneak a few screams in from the Poseidon Adventure, as I really wanted to add some really dramatic ones in especially for the explosion as it goes under.

Lastly the narration at the end was inaccurate to the actual sinking so I used Elevenlabs to create a new ai narration, and overlaid a more somber version of Nearer My God To Thee which segues into the end titles.

Original Version:

I could only find the full scene with a Spanish dub of the end narration which is weird because the passengers still sing Nearer My God To Thee in English.

It doesn't include the second really over the top choir version of Nearer My God To Thee because it cuts short of the end titles.

My Version:

With all of the sound edits and the extra added cuts.

Great job! However, it would be helpful to see the original, unedited version for comparison. Overall, this is excellent work! 👍  g

The original version is linked in my last post although it has the Spanish dub at the end. I couldn't find a good quality version of it on youtube. So I may edit a comparison video together. 🙂

I've noticed that there was not a cinematic animated pov of Alpen Fury. It seems they only made the on-ride, and off-ride (not counting the commercial animation.)

So I present to you, the cinematic version I've made. 😁
