Community Chat Discussion Question 3: Favorite Halloween/Fall Season Movie?

Time for another community discussion. What is your favorite Halloween/Fall season movie. This can be anything!

This is a hard one for me because I am a fan of Hocus Pocus and both Haunted Mansion movies, then of course the Tower Of Terror movie.

If we're talking about family-friendly Halloween movies then Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown are definitely up there - those are just instant classics and nostalgic for me. If we're talking actual horror movies.. there's a load of them that are good. Me and my older sister used to watch a lot of horror movies growing up so I've seen movies like The Exorcist, The Ring, Poltergeist, The Shining, Carrie, The Grudge, The Conjuring, etc.

The Conjuring in my opinion is probably one of the better recent horror movies, in my opinion, quality horror movies severely dropped when Paranormal Activity was released and was super successful. As for a favorite... that's a tough one but if Pan's Labyrinth is considered a "horror" movie then it's definitely my favorite.

there's this illusion of the reality, but it's not really really real, like it's beside and inside and inside and beside, but never on top.. nevermind, just kidding but not really

This is probably the Mom in me, but I still hold a special place in my heart for "It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown (1966)". It's innocent and funny and reminds me of when my boys were little and we would go Trick-or-Treating together. Now they're all grown up and too old for all that. :,^/

As for horror movies, my taste trends toward the more intellectual... movies like "Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)" or even older like "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931)". (which BTW was amazing given the limited technology of the time) For more modern horror I still trend toward the older stuff like "Alien (1979)" or "The Thing (1982)" and other sci-fi horror movies. (my SO likes vampire movies... blech!) I also get a kick out of old B-rate sci-fi horror films of the 50s-70s like "Phantom from Space (1953)" and "Night of the Lepus (1972)" that are just fun to watch. (and my boys are worse than Tom Servo and Crow from MST3K!)

Paranormal films like "The Amityville Horror (1979)" or "Poltergeist (1982)" or "The Omen (1976)" are okay sometimes, (and far creepier than any of the "body horror" films like "Saw" or the "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies that are just gross, not scary) but I have to be in the mood for them. Otherwise they're just something to watch while I do my grocery list. :^Þ

Great topic, @Cody! I look forward to other peoples' perspectives.

The idea is to keep an open mind... just not so open that your brains fall out. - Harry Anderson

Older horror movies are far superior than the newer garbage ones! Love all the classic 60 - 90 horror movies, there's a couple of good early 2000 ones but after that apart from The Conjuring they are all pretty much lame in my opinion.
