Sunday at 06:19 PM1 day It has been a bit since I have made a community chat topic. How are you beating the summer heat? Any fun summer plans?
Sunday at 07:12 PM1 day By living in the Southern Hemisphere... 😁It actually dropped down to 12°C - 53°F this morning at 5 am when I walked our pup...I was forced to wear a jacket! And tennis shoes rather an sandals! But I drew the line at wearing long pants though... I have a reputation as a gringo to uphold! Besides, it warmed up to 20°C - 68° later, which is still a cool day for here, even in winter.Early Tuesday we fly north to Panama City, then on to Orlando, then immediately on to Seattle (around 18 hours - my rear end hurts just thinking about it...) for a week to surprise my Dad on his 90th Birthday, then fly back to Orlando for a couple weeks vacation, then return at the end of the month. We usually go in the fall to Orlando, but my Dad just had to be born in the middle of summer, so we're stuck with dealing with the mid-summer heat and humidity.

There is not much here 🤣. Orlando in the summer is no joke, last year I went at the start of June and quickly learned how to hop from gift shop to gift shop. Epic Universe was a learning experience, thankfully I was in the air conditioning through most of the heat with the Ministry queue. Aside from park crafting in the air conditioning and working full time, the pool screams my name!
Sunday at 08:20 PM1 day Just lots of sweating going on here. I hit the pool, but the water was 96 degrees, so it didn't help much.

20 hours ago20 hr Yeah, 7+ hours from São Paulo to Panama City, two hour layover, then 3 1/2 hours to Orlando, three hour layover (while dealing with TSA...), followed by 6 1/2 hours to Seattle. FUN TIMES! At least we don't have to go through customs in Panama as long as we don't leave the terminal. This time we're not flying business class either, which was at least tolerable, but the prices have almost doubled since last year on the São Paulo/Orlando part so we're doing the "economy plus" seats this go round on COPA Airlines, then fly Alaska airlines from Orlando to Seattle. Other times we fly LATAM, which is an 8 1/2 hour direct flight to Orlando, but was priced a lot higher even for cattle car economy, and United and Delta prices were simply obscene...and I booked the trip last February before the oil shortage.
18 hours ago18 hr Here in D.C., I have basically not left my house for the last five days! Over 100°F 38°C every day! Humidity about 90%Dropped down to 87° today, thinking of breaking out my parka! 😀
12 hours ago12 hr Not too bad here in northern Nevada. Top out temps are only 95-98°F (35-37°C) with 10-15% humidity. We've only had a handful of 100°F+ days, (38°C) so pretty cool vs. a more typical summer. (but we still have the sweltering August nights ahead) 88°F (31°C) in the shade right now, but the highest heat won't be for a few hours yet. Nights are in the low 50°F (10°C) range, which is a typical temperature spread for the high desert.24 320w PV panels and a high efficiency AC means 72° inside with a $20 electric bill. (and that's all taxes and hookup fees) We also have about 2 MWh banked to get us through summer, so we're pretty solid. (but also means that we're going to be staying inside a lot ;^) )Most of this summer will be getting some inside stuff done like finishing the Craft Room up, fixing some shelves, and going through closets to give away stuff we don't need. (too much stuff!) Outside work like the back yard we're saving for the cooler autumn months.Keep cool and drink lots of water, folks! The idea is to keep an open mind... just not so open that your brains fall out. - Harry Anderson
2 hours ago2 hr It's been warming up here in San Diego. It's been around 78°F 😉. So I went out to the Safari Park to escape the cold, where it got up to 82°F. The volunteers were all telling the park guests to be sure to hydrate due to the heat. We're such wusses out here in Southern California. Actually, the Safari Park can get up to the triple digits in the summer, but that's not until August through September.P.S. I booked a behind the scenes tour, where I got to see lots of backstage stuff, including the lion and tiger "bedrooms" where they hang out when not on exhibit. Was quite interesting.
