Wow. This brings back memories of my trip, many years ago. I did Zion, Bryce Canyon, the Grand Canyon, and Sonoma. One of my very best vacations.

next part....moving onto Arches

Looks like an awfully long hike to get to the arch... but what a sight! And what a view! That path looks hazardous; nothing to keep you from going over the edge!

Yes, not for the faint of heart, but I can prob say my favorite hike I have ever been on. I think it was like 1.5 miles out to see the Arch, but it is the park and the state of Utah's icon, so well worth it. The trail has so many different unique sections. Its mostly up hill on the way out, but we took it slow and took breaks. Also went in the early AM before the heat baked us like fries. That slick-rock section was way steeper than it looked on screen and if you tripped and started rolling....well....over the edge you would go. That cliff edge was also very scary, but manageable. You may have noticed all the other people. It was a busy trail. Many of them even ventured out to the arch along that steep rolling bowl. Ruined many a photos, but I stayed there a while waited for the best moments were there were a fewer people and then a quick click in post editing and they were gone.

I'm not sure I could handle that hike. I did one at Zion that had a sheer drop along the edge of the trail and I got panicky and had to turn back. 😧

Double Arch (and a few of these other shots like Balance Rock) are the opening shots of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The "cave" where they find Cortez's Cross at the beginning of the movie are under Double Arch.

yes - same river. Colorado, but this one also has the green River cutting through them.

Here was the jeep ride we went on. It was awesome.

Good grief! With all the drop-offs to the left and right (and in front!), It's a miracle you guys made it home to tell the tale! You have to put a lot of trust in your driver! And so cool that you saw dino tracks, and stood in them!

I noticed that the Jeep's tires were under-inflated. I guess that was to get better traction with the rocks. The Jeep ride seems a lot like a roller coaster. Sorta reminds me of the tour through "Jurassic Park", except there were no paved roads here. I'm reminded of the quote from "Back To The Future": "Where we're going, we don't need roads!"

It was a bit scary at times, but still lots of fun. Yes the low tires were to grip the rocks better.

I just went to Glacier National Park a little over a week ago, and we were driving up the road through the park, and right next to you without any guard rails or anything, is like an 8k+ foot steep drop off.. as someone from Florida, I was not okay, haha

I bit of a story for this day. The plan was we were going to cut across Colorado, stay in a ski town overnight, and fly out the next day from Denver. Our phone blew up with notifies that our route was going to under a winter storm warning. Turns out that a huge late season storm was headed to cross our path. We scrambled, changed plans and got a flight out of Salt Lake City at midnight. Even though it cost a bit more to make this last-minute change, glad we did as the storm did hit and dropped over 2ft of snow in the mountains we were going to try to drive through...would have never made it.

I enjoyed seeing the Native American rock art. Couldn't help thinking that some vandal(s) would have destroyed it by now, of in the near future. Maybe it's up high enough on the cliff they can't reach it easily? The bison and coyote were fun to see as well. This has been a nice travelogue. Thanks!

Yes, they were above easy reach. A ladder would be needed. Some numbnuts did add their own art lower on the cliff face. Sometimes I don't know what's wrong with people.

It would be pretty neat to see native American art. I need to do some hiking in my area. I want to head back to the Delawareriver water gap. Even better yet, maybe do some kayaking in that area.
