November 26, 2024Nov 26 We'll continue our tour... WARNING: it's a long one as there is lot's to see (and I have a ton of screenshots I have to get through before we're done..lucky you!). Please excuse some of the textures...I had them cranked up but this bench is large and very detailed, so the Frontier textures dropped off badly... As we enter the Emerald City, our first stop is to purchase a pair of green-tinted glasses, as per orders of the Great And Powerful Wizard Of Oz (who places a small surcharge on each purchase to assist poor widows and orphans in obtaining their own glasses....no...really!)... While you wait others in your party can visit the Emerald Comfort Station (remember...everything is GREEN here, so don't be shocked when you look down...), or help themselves to a refreshing bowl of Ozcream or a cup of Green Lemonade (said to be a favorite of the Great and Powerful Wizard himself!)... The famed Yellow Brick Road continues a short ways inside the City... Where is spirals to an end in front of the Wizards Palace. Here we find "An Audience With The Great And Powerful Wizard Of Oz, Ruler Of The Emerald City, Protector Of OZ"...the attraction name lasts longer than the actual show I'd guess... Across the street is the shop of the Green Thumb Florist. Be careful where your carriage parks here! Next door you'll find Sir Cinnamon Bunn, Esq. Bakery... Who knew one needed a law degree to bake something? And Yellow Brick Treasures & Fine Gifts... Also in this building is the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Bank of OZ, Greenback's Currency Exchange, Allegro da Capo Music, Glad Rags Wizard Wear and Oznian Rings food shop... "The horse of a different color you've heard tell about!" Down this side street you can see the secondary gate leading to Munchkinland... On the left corner is the famed Emerald Grill...Princess Ozma herself ate there once...or maybe she ordered take-out... Back on the main street, on the left is Green Wishes apparel shop...up ahead on the right there's again the famous Emerald Grill restaurant... Just past on the left is The Royal Embassy of the Land of Ev To The Court Of The Wizard...say that fast three times in a row... The Royal Ambassador's coach awaits... Above the Emerald Grill is Bearly There Intimate Wear... And the Emerald City Rooftop Bar "We're not in Kansas anymore!"... Next door to the Emerald Grill is the Cinema Oznian ...this week a double feature - "The Wiz" and "Return to OZ"... Upstairs is an office for Munchkin Tours... Hank is ready to sell you a ticket... Next door is Emerald City Travel Agency, for all your travel around the Land of Oz... Next is Polychrome Art Works, for all your decorating needs... Emerald Theater...currently HM Wogglebug TE (Mr. Highly Magnified Woggle-Bug, Thoroughly Educated) is conducting a series of lectures on "The Fantasy World Outside Of OZ"...as if there was such a place...Ha! Dr. Herby and Emerald City Eyewear have offices here as well... Around the corner we find Oz Watch Repair, Munchkin Munchies, Johnny Dooit Repair Shop, a Pet Store, Lemon Drops, Magic Potions Shoppe and an outlet for Ugu's Shoes... Across the street is the Grand Staircase to upper levels of the City... Back across the road we find Emerald Gardens where there are Meet & Greet areas...today one can meet Glinda or the Wizard... FINALLY - something to do besides shopping or eating! Here we have The Wonderful Wheel of OZ (the Emerald City's Finest Views!) and The Emerald Flyer... We'll end today's tour with a big piece of Green Apple Pie at the Oznian Cafe... Next up - The Scallawagons and more of the City...
November 26, 2024Nov 26 Very interesting take on the Emerald City looking more like a turn of the Century town instead of the spiral art deco look of the original film.
November 26, 2024Nov 26 Guys if you don't stop putting out these amazing screenshots I'm going to have to ban you or something, these are too freaking good.. like that garden and the detail on those buildings?? HOW!? there's this illusion of the reality, but it's not really really real, like it's beside and inside and inside and beside, but never on top.. nevermind, just kidding but not really

Yeah, it was a deliberate choice too. I really liked the extravagance in the "Oz, The Great and Powerful" film which mixed the classic Art Deco with Art Nouveau and Beaux Arts, so I decided to go along with that. The classic Art Deco skyscrapers are still there, but I didn't want to just reproduce the 1939 film's look. Also the Goddard Groups plans for a real park we in part based this project on also combined a bunch of different styles. I haven't seen it yet, but the new Wicked film seems to mix styles also with a good dose of steam punk too... Edited November 26, 2024Nov 26 by Wabigbear

HOW!? LOL! Ah, thanks Wolfpaw! I can't take credit for many of the structures...they were Workshop finds in many instances that I recolored and tweaked. Some things - like the Grand Stairs - actually were copies of the bridges we crossed earlier getting to the Emerald City, I just took them apart and recombined them. Same with many of the other buildings...one was a 2 story building originally, I added another floor. Another I made wider by splitting it in half and adding to the middle. A lot of the details are TMTK items. I didn't make all of them (although there are 684 TMTK items I DID make for this project...). There's also several Emerald City buildings that were designed for another Wizard of Oz project by others...they were well made and sort of a tribute to their work...
November 26, 2024Nov 26 Wow, so much beauty and interesting details! I'm glad to see that the "Horse of a Different Color" makes an appearance here. Did you use different flavors of Jello gelatin powder on the horses like they did in the '39 movie? "remember...everything is GREEN here, so don't be shocked when you look down..." , [Using my best George Takei impersonation] Ohhhhhh, myyyyyy! I like how the YBR ends in a spiral (like it begins, in Munchkinland) in front of the Wizard's Palace. I also like how the sign outside "Bearly There Intimate Wear" evokes "Lions and Tigers and Bears". Hmm, would the "Bear" in question be "Washington Big Bear"? Really nice update! Thanks, Wagi.

Well, I didn't want anyone to look down and burst into tears thinking some social disease finally caught up with them... Obviously the Lion and Tiger were waiting for the Bear to try on a new sheer baby-doll nightie...always ready for a good laugh!
December 1, 2024Dec 1 On with the tour! Next up we come to the Scalawagon Terminal. Scalawagons were intelligent modes of transportation that were elevated above the busy streets of the Emerald City... Scalawagons were powered by Flabber Gas...(personally I blame that on Citytrader...) And while I couldn't make actual working Scalawagons, I did make a set that's parked at the terminal while a 'convertible' model actually circles the track... Someone had a lovely Parisian Kiosk in the Workshop I really admired, took forever to line everything up to make a cover-up with OZ ads to slip over it, but was worth it as it found a nice spot outside of the Emerald Place Apartments... Under the overhead Scalawagon tracks there's a spot for a refreshing little park with a fountain... An Emerald City Delivery cart is parked there... Around the corner we find the gorgeous and well stocked Celebrity Gift Store...where the Emerald City's many Celebrities buy gifts I guess... Next door is the Simply Green Shop, where, surprisingly enough - everything they sell is green! Followed by OZ Books and then Palace Foods - which has the best Green Cheese in town they say... Then The Emerald City Emporium and Jenny Jump's Style Shop... Pastoria Tailors...Pastoria was formerly KING Pastoria, father of Princess Ozma until Wicked forces usurped him from the throne. When rescued he decided to give up the crown and take up his favorite hobby of designing fabulous frocks... It's the Wizard Day Sale! Next is Shaggy Man's Men's Store...for all those rugged he-man types... Just past that is Princess Langwidere Beauty Shoppe. Princess Langwidere was famous for not just changing her hair color from time to time, but for changing her entire head...she boasted having over 50 of them. "Get A Head - Black, Blonde or Red" was her motto... Just in case you missed the pun they repeated it on the side of the building too... Another Green Eyewear cart... That brings us to that side entrance from Munchkinland, so we'll stop here for a nice bowl of Ozcream and return to the tour a bit later... As that Bard of Planet Coaster - Citytrader would say..."More to Come"... Edited December 1, 2024Dec 1 by Wabigbear
December 1, 2024Dec 1 Wow! You've really brought the Emerald City to life! It looks just like a real city center... well, with lots of green paint that needed to be used up. I see some more Horsies of a Different Color have shown up; this time they've been Jello-fied with lime-flavored powder. Looking at that Oz kiosk, I'm still amazed by how realistic the metallic textures are depicted in this game; whether glossy or with a semi-matte finish like that silver dome is here.
December 2, 2024Dec 2 Wow, the details in the Emerald City are simply gorgeous. The facades, all the little things, wonderful! One really feels the atmosphere. Great job!
December 4, 2024Dec 4 Thanks for the nice comments! We'll pick up where we last left off... Next to the secondary gate leading to Munchkinland, there's Green Whiskers Barber Shop... Just beyond is a small courtyard with one of the Emerald City's famous Hotz Dawgs stands... Next comes Emerald City Photo Studio (only later I discovered that someone else had made a similar but gorgeous camera-front facade...oh well...). There's even a photo cutout to take your own selfies of the kids... Next Shoes To Die For Shop and Green With Envy Fashions... Around the corner past a quiet spot is Cakes Cookies... The Scalawagon tracks pass overhead... And Merry Old Lunch by the Main Gate... On the corner is Ozma's Gowns for the elite of the Emerald City... Button Bright Toy Emporium... Also serves as a Lost & Found for wayward children... Button Bright's real name, as we all of course know, was...Saladin Paracelsus de Lambertine Evagne von Smith... Miss Cutterclip's Paper Crafts shop...along with Green Jeans... Opposite is the Emerald Grill again, along with Jellia Jamb's Housewares Emporium... (Someone asked where all these strange shop names came from. Some are names of shops envisioned in the original Goddard Group park plans, others are from lists with the names of characters found in one of the many OZ books I researched, a few I just plain made up...) Next up is the famous Wash & Brush Up Company. This structure was a Workshop find that I tweaked by adding another floor to, and altered some of the details. It's also one of the few shops in the Emerald City with an actual interior as well as a ride (Hoax...) hidden inside to draw peeps in. The interior is based on still photos from the 1939 movie, but of course is only "based" on them...) Here's our version... Reception area... You too can "Dye your eyes to match your gown!" Making our way inside... First up is Dorothy's station on the left... Lot's of bows and electric curlers mark the spot for the Cowardly Lion... A buffing wheel will help the Tin Man shine... Only the best Super X straw to stuff the Scarecrow! (Note the fire extinguishers are standing by...one can't be too careful around flammable materials!) Back passageway leads to the ride and the exit... The ride is hidden away behind the facade of the Ozma Arms Apartments and it's restaurant below it... We exit out through the Emerald City Finishing School doors... Once again a glimpse of Ugu's Shoes and Nimmie Aimee's Fabulous Frocks next door to the Emerald Gardens... We have some time before our appointment with the Great and Powerful Wizard, so we'll cross back over the main street and catch our breath before ascending to the upper level of the Emerald City... More to Come! (sorry...)
December 4, 2024Dec 4 Art Deco overload! I love it! More glimpses of the Emerald City in the Merry Olde Land of Oz.
December 8, 2024Dec 8 (You should be careful what one wishes for...) We pass under the Grand Staircase, to the right is The Palace Food Court with food shops... Here's another gate...this one leads out to cross the Emerald River and connects with the path to the Northern Kingdom. There's also an information stall located here to direct Emerald City visitors to different locales. On the left the street rises up to the Upper City... But first we'll pass by yet another theater (the Emerald City is known for it's entertainment venues...). The Odeon currently is home to a stage production of Wicked...what else? At the top of the ramp is The Grand Hotel...the Emerald City's finest lodging... Smith & Tinker Watchworks has a shop off the lobby...VERY exclusive watches... Next door is JAM Kites. Jonathan Andrew Manley (J.A.M.) was a young boy from Ohio who flew to OZ with two guinea pigs and a laboratory rat on a large kite... Bangadore Sweets Shop - Bangladore was a young candy giant who resided in a forest in the Winkie Country in the Land of Oz. His body was made of taffy and his eyes were sourballs; he wore a chocolate coat with marshmallow buttons and a peppermint collar... Another Oz Books Store (one can never have enough you know...) Next is the Chow Down Buffet...exotic foods from the far, FAR East... Aquareine...a fine seafood restaurant. Aquareine is the lovely and gracious queen of the mermaids and the first mermaid ever created. On the corner is the Emerald City Hotel... Around the corner is Pigasus - Fine Dining... And then we come to the Emerald City Gift Shop, full of souvenirs... And finally there's Snuffer Bux Boroso's Sleep Hotel, (his full name is Snufforious Buxorious Blundorious Boroso...but that wouldn't fit on the sign...) Now we'll pause before we head back down a ramp to the lower city...our appointed time to see the Wizard is approaching... As that Bard of ParkCrafters always says..."more to come"
December 9, 2024Dec 9 I think I would love to get lost in this city, and just wander around for a day or three. Haha, "Pigasus"? Is that one of your creations?
December 9, 2024Dec 9 9 hours ago, JB said: I think I would love to get lost in this city, and just wander around for a day or three. Haha, "Pigasus"? Is that one of your creations? LOL! I wish I had... "Pigasus is a flying, winged pig whose riders are magically compelled to speak only in verse until they dismount." It was found in several OZ books, mostly the later ones by Ruth Plumly Thompson who continued the series after Baum. In the 29th OZ book - The Wishing Horse of Oz - it helps Dorothy Gale discover what's happening when all the different rulers and personalities of OZ start to disappear - Ozma, Glinda, even the Wizard. No, I haven't read 29 different OZ books, only one! I came across the name on a list of OZ characters, and then when I remembered the cute pigs someone shared on the Workshop. I just made it some wings to become Pigasus!
December 14, 2024Dec 14 And we're back...ain't you lucky??? As we descend to the lower level of the Emerald City, we again pass under the Scalawagons as they exit from their tunnel under the city... There's many residences in this part of the City... Skycars to the Wicked Witch of the West's Castle are to the left...as if anyone really wanted to go there! *shutter* Meanwhile to the right we find the Tarts 'n Torts - a lawyerly bakery, and Eureka's Catonic Tea Shop (specializing in Catnip Tea...). Eureka was Dorothy's pet white kitten than accompanied when she returned to OZ...repeatedly for some strange reason... Across the street are Hotz Dawgs and Tater Sticks shops... The Skycars to the Wicked Witches Castle rise overhead...carrying unsuspecting peeps to their doom no doubt... A side gate allows one to walk to the Wicked Witches Castle (if anyone actually wanted to...), or the other direction meets up with the Yellow Brick Road on the way to the Nome King's Lair and Winkie Town...and of course a cart selling green tinted glasses stands ready. At the Emerald City Stables you'll find Betsy Bobbins and her mule Hank... Victor Columbia Edison's Magical Music Store - what else did you expect from an enchanted talking Victrola? Capt. Bill's Fish Feast. The old seafarer brings his fresh catch to the Emerald City... The Jester's Magic Shop... Which brings us back around to the Emerald City Main Gate and The Palace...just in time for our Audience With The Great And Powerful Wizard Of OZ - Ruler Of The Emerald City - Protector Of OZ... Until next time...there's for to come (but we've made it most of the way so you can wake up now...)!
December 15, 2024Dec 15 Hmm, looks like someone (outside the Tea Shop) is having fried liver and eggplant (on the dinner plate). Not my favorite things. Or maybe it's a rib eye steak and baked potato; yum! Not sure about the catnip tea. It is in the mint family, so maybe it'd be OK. (I prefer good ol' Lipton.) I think the peeps in the Skycar already know their fate... they're ashen white with fear! Looking at that beautiful compass rose, illuminated in sunlight, I wish RCT3 produced such nice shadows. The Stables look really accurate. Is that some in-game stuff? Workshop items? Or more Wagi Specials? I love how the decorative support beams of the Scalawagons add visual interest to these scenes; like the elevated trains in early New York, or Chicago. "The old seafarer brings his fresh catch to the Emerald City." Cap'n Bill probably brings his not-so-fresh catch to the Witch's Castle. She probably appreciates the pungent lack of freshness. That last shot is truly beautiful and fascinating! I've run out of superlatives to describe this beautiful city of yours, Wagi. (Did that 'other guy' (citytrader) have a hand in building Emerald City?) Thanks, Wagi.
December 15, 2024Dec 15 Yep, I prodded and woke citytrader up from his nap from time to time to ask what he thought about this or that because admittedly he knows far more about OZ than I do (being around when it was first written - in fact I think he visits there often during his naps...as well as during his waking hours if truth be told...). He was busy with the Yellow Brick Country bench, which will be shown soon, but limited to times between his work and real-life things popping up that had his attention while I played around on the Emerald City...one of the advantages of retirement for me! I haven't even seen the completed Yellow Brick Country bench myself! But what I've seen so far looks great! The elevated Chicago lines were certainly the inspiration for the Scalawagon line. That, and they were a late addition after I had already laid out the streets and placed many of the buildings, so I decided to run them elevated, which worked out well, even if in the books they ran at street level. The stable was in fact a Workshop find, just repainted and tweaked slightly. There's some fantastic builds in there - I never feel bad about using them rather than trying to make something myself that's not even half as good! The Wizards Palace is another Workshop find - "European Palace Left" and "European Palace Right" by Bob. There's also a center section available that I didn't use. I had to re-color everything green on both blueprints, which was a task, but I loved the curved facade and the domes. I then just filled in a small section in the middle and added a few things. A really nice blueprint, and I'm a sucker for this style anyways, as you can see in a couple other EC buildings. The Emerald City here mixes a lot of different styles, sort of like an actual city would I think. Beaux Arts, some Medieval, Art Nouveau...all were used in illustrations for the Oz books over the years, and of course Art Deco in the '39 film, so there is a link between them all besides in just my imagination...
December 22, 2024Dec 22 Our appointment time is upon us...time to head towards the Palace of Oz... "An Audience With The Great And Powerful Wizard Of OZ, Ruler Of The Emerald City, Protector Of OZ"... We enter the Great Hall... And are ushered into the presence of the Great and Powerful One himself... "The Great OZ knows why you are here!" "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!" We are dismissed from the Great Oz's presence, so we wander to another palace hall where there is the Horse of a Different Color Carousel... Of course you can count on their being food stalls down a side haul...being Great and Powerful ain't cheap you know! There's yet more to see (Hey!I heard that groan...) in the upper levels of the city behind the Palace. We'll explore there next time... "More to come!" NOTE: Apologies for the poor textures on many of the in-game pieces. While most of the TMTK items look fine, the reduced textures on the Frontier items when a park reaches a certain size sadly kick in, even with textures jacked up to max. That's one thing PC2 seems to handle better based on what I've seen so far anyways...
December 22, 2024Dec 22 I'm a sucker for a grand double-decker carousel. Took me a few seconds to realize that the rainbow-colored horsies were decoration, not the actual horses. I also love all the green marble (malachite?) everywhere in the Great Hall. And how the centerpiece (with the giant Wizard face) appears to be an elegant pipe organ.

The "Grand Organ" by Carnage. I just tweaked it a little... Some of the green marble pieces are Workshop finds, others I made, like the floor/wall tiles. Glad you liked them!
December 30, 2024Dec 30 Well, we're getting near the end of our tour of The Emerald City (thunderous applause and wild cheering breaks out...), but there's still a bit more to share (widespread groaning is heard...), so let's get it over with by climbing the Grand Stairs to the upper levels of the city... (Yes, this is a tweak of the same Art Deco bridge from the Workshop I've used a couple times elsewhere!)... At the top of the stairs the path divides, with one part climbing even higher... We'll take the left branch and stroll through the lush Princess Ozma Gardens... A bronze statue of the Princess herself welcomes you (and reminds you to stay on the path and off the grass!)... Graceful structures serving no known purpose grace the park... Ahead is the entrance to The Marvelous Balloon Ride...some say there's a hidden pun in that name somewhere... And there's the MARVELous Balloons themselves...(hint-hint...)... There's another carousel under this dome...no name, just hidden away for VIPeeps I guess... Now we'll circle back around and head up to the highest part of the city open to park guests. This is above and behind the Odeon Theater... The climb is steep...luckily there's a handy elevator hidden away somewhere...(now if I can only remember where I put it...)... More gardens... Ahead is the entrance to Aerial Adventures Over OZ, a 3D ride that takes you in a Oznian Flying Ship to tour the Land of OZ...well, until the Wicked Witch sends her Flying Monkeys against you! Will you escape in time for the next showing??? The ride theater is accessed by elevator through this unmarked door...spooky ain't it? THIS is where we think we are going...but actually the elevator takes us to a hidden theater (thus why the hidden door I guess!)... Information booth on the long slog down the exit stairs to ground level (if you don't want to take an elevator...personally I've never seen this spot in person...)... The front side of the Emerald City... The back side of the Emerald City... The Emerald City Monorail Station...(a nifty Workshop find! But I had to recolor much of it...)... Numerous bridges lead to the north shore of the Great Oznian River...(a name I just now made up...).... The Emerald Flyer Monorail entering the tunnel leading to the Northern Kingdom... Bunnybury is down below, it's inhabited by civilized bunnies... Along the shore...the view from the Munckinland Tours Boat... The Haunted Forest and Wicked Witches Castle in the far left and Winkie Town on the right... Around the corner from the Monorail Station is the side entrance to the City... Just past the gate are the circus tents of Notta Bit More, the circus clown who was transported to OZ... His tents back up to the Emerald City's walls... That will end our tour for today. Next time we'll just have some random night-time screens, so if you turn off the lights no one will know you've nodded off! Unless you snore...
December 30, 2024Dec 30 The crowd goes wild! Crowd: "meh." (Joking, of course.) The citizens of Emerald City are fortunate indeed to live amongst such beauty and splendor. I love the 2nd image, showing the winding staircases, rocky hillsides, towering architecture, and landscaping. It's like an M.C. Escher drawing come to life! "Graceful structures serving no known purpose", Their purpose is to provide visual interest and beauty; which they do! "there's a hidden pun". Hmm, beats me. I know, let's ask Professor Marvel! He knows everything! Oh wait... "Marvelous"/"Marvel"... I get it now! The Balloon ride is named after Marvel Comics! How ingenious! I love how you placed the Balloon ride up high to add more excitement and provide a great view of its surroundings. Great looking 'dirigible' structure. And I like the tilted disks on the tall, main towers of the City. Interesting how the futuristic monorail fits right in with this fantasy world. Great update!
January 4Jan 4 As threatened ...er...promised, here's some random night-time screens of The Emerald City. For the full immersive effect add the sounds of snoring and drool on yourself from time-to-time...it will feel like Citytrader is right there in the room with you! And that draws our tour of the Emerald City to a close...thanks to those who stayed awake for it! But wait! There's still more of the Wonderful World of OZ to explore, but luckily it's now Citytrader's turn to lead you through the wonders of Yellow Brick Country - Home of the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion... More To Come!
January 4Jan 4 Hmm, not sure about Citytrader's snoring and drool (Snoring and Drool would make a great name for a law firm!). I prefer to hear crickets chirping in these beautiful nighttime shots. But not just any crickets, these are crickets-of-a-different-color! Not sure, but I'm sensing that green is the color here in Emerald City. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) Plus a smattering of gold. I'm in love with the giant OZ Wheel; so iconic! I'm definitely gonna try the Chow Down Buffet; who can resist a double-headed dragon! [I'm actually / for real, making a multi-course Chinese dinner tonight.] All these screenshots are great, but my favorites are: The OZ Wheel in center frame; the aerial shot of the Odeon Theatre (Wicked) with a bit of the OZ Wheel in the foreground on the right (very 3D-ish!); the aerial view of the Chow Down Buffet facade; the 3rd-from-the-bottom shot that shows pretty much everything; and the final overview shot which shows the entire Emerald City. Thanks, Wagi.
