I'm still playing on a box that is like almost 8 years old now.

AMD Ryzen 7

32.0GB

ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (AM4)

2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (EVGA)

Nope, no updates just for this new game.  It's quite a few years old, but for the most part still serves it's purpose.  I think I would have been ticked if I had upgraded just for PC2 only to then discover it's problems!

 XPS 8930

 i7-9700 CPU @ 3.00GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.0GHz

 16384MB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060  14063 MB

Atari 800

48k RAM

Cassette tape program recorder

In more recent years, I upgraded to a 5.25" floppy disk drive (squirrel driven). Eventually, the motor gave out. (The squirrel died. Old age. But he lived a long and happy life). I replaced the squirrel with a 2-gerbil motor. The gerbils are easier to come by, at any pet shop, and they take up less space. (I had to be really crafty to trap that squirrel that I had in there initially).

🤣 WOV man! - I had just couple of weeks ago my last working C64's 5,25" FDD drive die on me... and it looks like I won't be loading any games from FDD any time soon, as working 1541s are becoming more and more extinct - and even more expensive! Not surprising, but my Commodore 1530 C-cassette drive, bought in 1984, is still working(!), but I have very little patience for some of the loading times - the longest loading time for a game that I have is well over 20 minutes! 😁 - and that's provided that there will be no read or syntax errors, forcing the process to be repeated! - No wonder people turn to drink ! 😉

But seriously, folks!

I was just thinking about this recently, and my advice would be for everyone: IF your PC gaming rig is older than 6 years, NOW is the time to upgrade - before the prices will skyrocket (especially in USA)

Having a long, long experience with PC gaming hardware, I can safely say that you can still go at least 2 or 3 years with new games, if your rig fills these specs: (the new Indiana Jones game is an exception, as its hardware requirements are insane! 😱 - this will without a doubt apply to the upcoming GTA VI)

  • Your CPU is Intel Core i5, i7 or i9 minimum 9th generation (we're currently on 14th gen.) (Xeon, Pentium, Celeron or Core i3 are not good enough for modern gaming!) AMD is NOT a gamer's choice! Never-ever!

  • GPU is Nvidia GeForce RTX 3000-series (Although you'll be fine with GTX 1060, RTX 2000 and above for at least a couple of years more.) AMD is NOT a gamer's choice! Never-ever!

  • 16Gb of DDR4 memory (if your rig still has DDR3 memory and you're not planning to do full upgrade really soon, you are quickly running out of time, due to DDR3 becoming extinct)

Didn't upgrade anything for PC2 but my specs are...

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080

  • 64GB RAM

  • Intel Core i9-12900K

  • 1TB SSD, 2TB SSD, and 2TB HDD

  • Dual 4K monitors

It survived my RoE project so I think it can survive anything (for now at least) 🤣

there's this illusion of the reality, but it's not really really real, like it's beside and inside and inside and beside, but never on top.. nevermind, just kidding but not really

Hey Shyguy, great to see you!

That's a lovely rig. Loving the monitor too.

Two colleagues have a Odyssey G9, which looks amazing but I can't get out of the mind space of one monitor is for one program. I run two monitors on an arm, it's very Wall Street...., and I'll have my game in front of me and then socials/music/chrome on the other monitor.

My new rig has run everything really well so far.

That's a pretty good setup shyguy. But it can't compare to my Atari 800! (see above) :-D

Hi, iEddiez. Those ultra wide monitors look cool, but they're too big for my workspace.

I'm so jealous.
