June 8Jun 8 Well, here we go I know the release of the new game is a ways off yet, but hey, I'm retiring in a few weeks and will time to add yet another project to my list. Riverbanks Zoo is a real zoo found about an hour or so from where I live. Its located in Columbia SC. My plan is to try and replicate the zoo as close to reality as I can. Especially because this zoo is growing and starting to build new enhanced habitats for the animals. My goal will be to replicate what's there, but also start to build out the enhancements from concept art and plans already released.I will start this thread with history of the zoo, details and plans of what I plan to build.Should be quite a challenge for a what is a real life medium sized zoo. There footprint covers two sides of a fairly wide river. The east side is where most of the old zoo resides. Pretty flat overall, but lots of habitats and exhibits, some of very unique design. There is a huge/long bridge that crosses the river. The west side is a steep incline up from the riverbanks. There used to be a trail and tram that switch-backed up the side through thick forest. Recently they opened a cable tram ride (very similar to what is at WDW) that now take you across and up the hillside. The top of the property has a large botanical garden, water splash area for kids, as well as a forest tree fort climbing adventure.Recent plans and the reason for the cable car is that the entire west hillside will be developed to a new Asia themed area where the tigers will reside along with red pandas, and other primates that you will walk by and under as you make your way back down the hillside walkways.Phew, this should be fun. June 9Jun 9 ANOTHER WOWMAN PROJECT!! Super excited! Can't wait to see you tackle Planet Zoo 2... on top of Planet Zoo 1, Planet Coaster 1, and Planet Coaster 2, haha - I don't know how you do it! there's this illusion of the reality, but it's not really really real, like it's beside and inside and inside and beside, but never on top.. nevermind, just kidding but not really
June 9Jun 9 Looking forward to this.I hope Wowman and myself won't be the only 2 members to post PZ2 projects here. "The squeaky wheel gets the kick." -- Minsc (Baldur's Gate)
Wednesday at 10:04 PM4 days Author Some early history of the zoo.In the early 1960s, a group of local businessmen initiated the concept of a small community zoo. Known as the Columbia Zoo, the proposed facility was designed exclusively as a children’s zoo with a nursery rhyme theme. Funding restraints and other problems doomed the initial effort, but the concept of a zoo for the Midlands of South Carolina persisted. In 1969, the South Carolina General Assembly created the Rich-Lex Riverbanks Parks Special Purpose District, the legal and governing authority for what was ultimately to become Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. The seven-member Riverbanks Park Commission was established as the district’s governing authority.By creating Riverbanks as a Special Purpose District, the state legislature significantly expanded the Zoo’s support base. Richland and Lexington counties joined the city of Columbia as full partners in the budding Riverbanks project. Each of the three political entities appointed two members to the Commission, with the seventh appointed at-large. Approximately 100 acres of land on both sides of the Lower Saluda River and just outside of the city proper were leased to the commission by South Carolina Electric and Gas (SCE&G) for 99 years at $1.00 per year.

15 hours ago15 hr Wow, this zoo has talking animals: Gorillas, penguins, and sea lions! (Sorry, couldn't resist.)
4 hours ago4 hr Author I listen to them all the time. The gorilla's tend to have the most intelligent topics. Edited 4 hours ago4 hr by Wowman
4 hours ago4 hr Author BTW - the longtime main silverback in this troop has fallen ill recently. The zoo released a statement that he has a mass in his colon/abdomen. They are monitoring him closely, but I think they released this story because he will not have that much longer. Here is a pic I have of him from last year.
