Following five years of planning and construction, Riverbanks opened to the public on April 25, 1974. Notable features of the original Zoo design were the mountainous, moated exhibits for cats and bears (these remain a part of the Zoo's landscape today and can be seen immediately upon entering the parking area). Other major exhibits included two buildings with 21 individual exhibits for small mammals and a moated enclosure for giraffes and white rhinos. Perhaps the most striking architectural feature of the new Zoo was the 22,000-square-foot Ecosystem Birdhouse. Located in the heart of the Zoo, this building housed hundreds of birds in indoor and outdoor exhibits.

At the back of the entry plaza to this land is a restroom for relief.

Here is a screen capture of this part of the video. The yellow lines appear to be a stopping point for those guests. The green circle is the family group that right after this frame...they turn and walk the other direction. Maybe its because the track is in edit mode and the path is 'incomplete', but we can only hope.

I believe they will, even though they haven't really said this. If you watch the video they released...The one quick shot of placing the track piece over the path...there is a group of guests on the far side that look as though they are 'waiting'...and there is a family group on the near side that stops, turns and walks the other direction. There are no crossing guards, but this something the community will have to add as triggers on the ride tracks.

Cenzoo, the silverback mentioned above didn't make. so sad.

BTW - the longtime main silverback in this troop has fallen ill recently. The zoo released a statement that he has a mass in his colon/abdomen. They are monitoring him closely, but I think they released this story because he will not have that much longer. Here is a pic I have of him from last year.

I listen to them all the time. The gorilla's tend to have the most intelligent topics.

Here is a current map of the zoo. The Blue circles show what will be the future enhancements. You can see the lion habitat is marked, but the larger blue circle on the other side of the river will be the large Asia (Tiger, Red Panda, and primates) area.
